The Norwegian newspaper dagbladet posts today that the Audi R8 will be shown as a pure electric version at the car show in Frankfurt this year. VW's city-car UP, which gets here in 2011 will also be available as an electric.
Looking forward to the specs on the R8 indeed!

Thanks, Ben - lots of great things happening on the EV front - let's just hope that this wave actually lasts for years and provides a true alternative to our oil addiction. Heck, we've only had EV technology for 75 years or so, maybe this time we can make it stick! mw

Hi Again Ben! The original City-el was 36 volt with 35 mph top speed recommended. Mine was boosted to 48 volt with 50 mph top speed. That violates weight with the extra battery, safety (that is a SMALL vehicle) and distribution of weight. That 3-wheeler shimmys above 45 mph. Very good acceleration! Germany makes them now with 48 volts as an option. I hope those will be sold here new, but I do not think they are available currently.

Thanks for the warm welcome Ben! Electric cars started for me with small slot cars being easily transformed from mild "complete factory" cars to "screamers". Over the years I always considered electric cars, and when 2001 rolled around I was riding a recumbent trike and motorised it. Being so pleased with the performance- a few years later- I motorised an enclosed velomobile. Then a year or so later, I had to get my hands on an electric microcar- the City-el. It has been excellent! I use a wheelchair, so I take the wheels off of it, pile them into the City-el cargo deck, and go! The small width is so much easier to avoid problems! Not to mention the motorcycle license allowing me a LOT of "free" parking! I live about 45 miles from Silicon Valley, and when the City-el completely wears out I will have many electric vehicles to choose from to replace it!

Hey Ben;
The Shelby EV has the mountains behind it.I hang out on this other site for electric car infrastructure called Planet Better Place.com. and they talk about electric cars a lot.....so I have been collecting electric car pictures and finding out about countries like Israel and Denmark who are putting in charging locations as well as battery changing stations.The guy who started Planet Better Place,named Shai Agassi has an office down on the penninsula 30 or 40 miles away from where I live where they are directing Israel and Denmark to get electric car infrastructure and are working on other places like Australia,Hawaii,and Toronto Ontario,Canada,where people will drive and be able to recharge.

Hey B3; My internet connection costs $15/month and though it is "high speed DSL" it is like 1.5 mb/sec.The cable company....comcast for us here has 12 mb/sec I found out yesterday for like $66/month.When I get a room mate I will go from like $15.00 I am paying now up to half of $66.00 or $33.00 just to speed things up.
I noticed you put up the Tesla Roadster and was wondering if you knew about the 4-door $49,000 US model C that came out a week or so ago? I have pictures of some some high end sports cars that are electric.One is made by Carrol Shelby who for years has modified Ford Mustangs into Shelby GT350 &GT500's for racing.The second picture is of an electric race car that looks awsome,is made in Europe for LeMan's I think and has been constructed for all of a month or so.Feel free to post them on you page if you want to.

Hey B3;
My internet service went from 19.95/month to 9.95 but got way slower even though it is "high speed" videos do not play seamlessly.When you get to your connection .....google Maltese Falcon maybe because the sail boat is famous for its length and you can see a lot of pictures.I think it is like 3 years old and one of the pictures I saw showed it in SF close to where I live and it would of been cool to see it in person.

Hey B3;
That sail boat is the longest ,so far and is 287 feet long or about 100 meters I think.It is 187 feet tall.You can see the 60 Minutes segment if you do a 60 Minutes "search" and find out how much he spent and see how well appointed it is
