This week Lightning Motorcycles went to the Bonneville Salt Flats and made a huge leap forward for electric motorcycle performance, completely shattering previous electric motorcycle land speed records. Records that had been set by Lightning a year ago.
They made several runs beginning with a practice/qualifying run of 178 miles/hr that itself broke last years record (they'd set themselves) by a few miles/hr. The next run broke 200 miles/hr with a 205 miles/hr speed. A couple days later they made a pair of runs achieving a 215.96 miles/hr averaged over two runs and a 218 miles/hr maximum speed.
What's shown in the video below is run 6 of 6. In the run the rider, Paul Thede, gets up to around 215 miles/hr and holds that speed for a good long distance. However he'd did one run faster at 218.6 mph max speed that was part of setting a 215.96 miles/hr electric motorcycles land speed record during the week.
Now they have their sight set on breaking 220 miles/hr or more. Maybe they'll go to the BUB speed trials on their way to the TTXGP final race?
